Program Guidance and Oversight

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (MCS) is one of the departments in the College of Science, Mathematics, Engineering, and Technology (CSMET). The other departments in the college are Biological and Physical Sciences, Industrial and Electrical Engineering Technology, and CMET and Nuclear Engineering. The college has an Industrial Advisory Council (IAC) that meets twice a year. The IAC has subcommittees for each department. The IAC subcommittee for Mathematics and Computer Science provides the needed oversight and guidance during their bi-annual meetings. The membership in this subcommittee is voluntary and regularly updated. Here is a list of current members in this subcommittee.

Program Benefits and Distinctive

According to Cyber Security Online, 2017 was a year dominated by news of data breaches and new cyber security threats, from major hacks affecting companies like Equifax and Verizon to ransomware attacks like the global WannaCry incident. In an article entitled, “Top 5 cyber security facts, figures and statistics for 2018," it estimates the following:

(1) Cyber crime damage costs to hit $6 trillion annually by 2021;

(2) Cyber security spending to exceed $1 trillion from 2017 to 2021;

(3) Human attack surface to reach 6 billion people by 2022;

(4) Global ransomware damage costs are predicted to exceed $5 billion in 2017; 

(5) Cyber crime will more than triple the number of unfilled cyber security jobs.
